Some of the world’s top musicians are coming together tonight for a special benefit concert to help Hurricane Sandy Victims. The start-studded lineup features a plethora of rock and roll heavyweights, including Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, The Who and Rodger Waters. In fact, a unique announcement was today that McCartney, the former lead singer of the Beatles, will be joining former Nirvana band members Dave Grohl and Krist Novalesic on stage to conceivably perform a Nirvana song. McCartney will be the front man in place of Nirvana’s original lead singer, Kurt Cobain who died in 1994. The trio has been covertly practicing in preparation for the special event, and it will be interesting to see them on stage together.
The event is expected to reach approximately 2 billion viewers, which is more viewers than any other live event in history. Thanks to an assortment of television channels, free showings at movie theatres and online showings, just about anyone with a communication device will be able to watch the event.
Above all else, the benefit is for a wonderful cause. It should be a blast watching some of the world’s top performers on stage, however, the best part is that proceeds will go to the victims of Hurricane Sandy. Corporate contributions have been used to pay for production costs, allowing all of the fundraising from the concert to go directly to the victims. Ticket sales have already raised $35 million, and an eventual recorded soundtrack of the show should fetch even more.
Alicia Keys, Billy Joel and Jon Bon Jovi are among the other featured artists playing this evening. It should be an exciting night to watch the music world come together for a tremendous cause.
