Every Toredo Float Log archtop guitar set is different. In 2000, Bob Benedetto came to me at the World Guitar Congress in Baltimore. He asked if I could supply him with some toredo-eaten Sitka planks for archtop construction. I said yes and sent him 2 sets of plank-cut boards. He built Toredo 1 and Toredo 2 and sold them for a very substantial price. Good for you Bob! These are wedge-cut boards that will yield a more symmetrical pattern because they are cut closer to the instrument profile. I’m really not selling the wood at this price, but rather all the time and work that it takes to find a set that is workable. All the 23-foot long saws need sharpening after just a couple of cuts because of the calcium shell deposits that line the holes made by the toredo mollusk.
Enhanced Resonance for Unparalleled Tone
The unique journey of these Toredo Float Log Sitka Spruce archtop guitar wood sets contributes to their exceptional acoustic properties. Having spent time submerged, the wood undergoes a natural seasoning process that enhances its vibrational characteristics. This natural aging, combined with the inherent qualities of old-growth Sitka Spruce, ensures an impressive stiffness-to-weight ratio that translates into superior projection, a broad dynamic range, and unparalleled tonal clarity for your finished archtop guitar. The soundboard wood’s natural maturation creates resonant qualities sought after by professional luthiers crafting high-end instruments.
